Back to "What We Believe"

Offering

Many people have different views about "offering" in church.

Some see offering as "dues" - paying to belong.

Some see offering as "paying God off" for bad behavior or to get what they want.

These views, like all confused thinking, begin with the wrong perspective: "I'm giving something to God".  But offering begins with God.

God provides all we need.

The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.  Psalm 145

We give back firstfruit in love and trust to Him.

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, I Corinthians 16:2

We give offerings of thanksgiving.

Let them sacrifice thank offerings
and tell of his works with songs of joy. Psalm 107:22

God gives back to His church to provide for the ministry He has called us to do.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.  All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  Acts 2
